4.9 Finance

Finance controls the actual flow of money through the University. This includes the payment of deposits and tuition payments.

It is very important to run the Quality Checks on this data. There can very strange results (e.g. extremely late payments). Thus run the checks and work with Finance to verify their accuracy.

4.9.1 Deposits

These data represent the date that a student pays their deposit. Care should be taken to consider those students who have their deposit waived as in the case of some scholarships. Additionally, some students pay their tuition outright and thus will not have a separate deposit line item. These students are the rare cases, but this information should be considered.

4.9.2 First Payments

These data represent the first time that a student begins paying their tuition. Initial research has shown that students who wait until the last moment to pay their tuition are more likely to leave.
