4.10 Campus Life
Campus life is home to the major of information regarding students non-academic activities on campus. It is important to form relationships with these partners on campus in order to understand when new data are added.
4.10.1 Club Participation
Club participation is logged through rosters on theLink. Currently, these data are extracted from Campus Life partners. Eventually, there is talk of using an API to access these data directly. If that were the case then additional research could be performed (e.g. interaction with theLink which has information on the different types of clubs).

4.10.4 Greek Registration
This data set consists of records of those students who register to participate in the Greek System, if those students receive a bid, and if those students accept said bid. First Year students are allowed to rush (the process by which one joins a Greek organization) in the spring of the second semester. Students must have a sufficiently high GPA to rush. Those women who wish to rush will report on campus several days before the start of the Spring term. Students then meet with the different groups. Those groups that are interested in the students will invite them to join the organization. Those students who are invited to are said to have received a “bid.” The student has the option of accepting that bid or declining to join the Greek system. Wake Forest has representation of fraternities and sororities from the National Panhellenic Conference, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the North American Interfraternity Conference.
Initial research has shown that those women who do not receive a bid after registering to rush are slightly more likely to leave Wake Forest University.

4.10.6 Intramural Participation
Campus Recreation hosts a variety of intramural sports for students to participate in. Data are collected by Campus Recreation staff with IPads at the games and students swipe their DeaconOne cards to record their participation.
Research has shown that students who participate in intramurals are more likely to be retained. Based on this initial finding student activity fees were waived and additional focus was put on forming first year teams.

4.10.7 Living and Learning Communities
These data contain the living and learning communities (also called Residential Engagement Communities) in which students live. Not all students elect to become a part of these communities. Typically, these communities have a theme (e.g. substance free living). See https://rlh.wfu.edu/student-involvement/recs/ for details.

One data source that was not fully explored was the roommate preference survey responses. In this survey the students are supposed to answer questions about their preferences for roommates (e.g. “my room is a place primarily for studying”, or “I prefer to be an earl riser”). These questions go into the matching decisions made for first year students.20 As a reminder, first year students are randomly assigned their first year roommates.
Please note that there is some concern that these data are not truly valid because parents may be the one entering data regarding the student preferences. Regardless, it is an available data source for analysis.↩
