Dr. Kevin Bowen
Director of Bands

Dr. Kevin Bowen is a native of Tennessee. He holds degrees in music education from Tennessee Tech University, music performance from the University of Louisville, and music education with an emphasis in wind band conducting from Florida State University.  Prior to coming to Wake Forest University, Dr. Bowen taught in the public schools of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida. At Wake Forest, Dr. Bowen conducts the wind ensemble and chamber winds, directs the jazz ensemble, co-directs the athletic bands, coaches brass ensembles and teaches trumpet.

 

Philip Morgan
Associate Director of Bands

Philip Morgan began his professional music career as an undergraduate at Appalachian State University. While at ASU, Mr. Morgan completed the requirements as a participant in the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program, and graduated with a Bachelor of Instrumental Music Degree. After his tenure at ASU, Philip Morgan was the Director of Bands at Concord High School and Middle School for 12 years. In 1994, Mr. Morgan was appointed Conductor and US/ North Carolina Cultural Ambassador to Ireland by Governor Jim Hunt. Mr. Morgan is a former Graduate Assistant with the venerated Western Carolina University Music Department/ Athletic Bands having completed a Masters of Arts in Education in Comprehensive Instrumental Music. After completing his MAEd, Mr. Morgan served as Associate Conductor and Adjunct Music Faculty at WCU directing the Symphonic Band and assisting the Instrumental Music Education Department. The 2007-2008 school year, is Mr. Morgan's first year with Wake Forest University.

John Antonelli
Percussion Instructor

John Antonelli joined Wake Forest as an Adjunct Professor of percussion shortly after he graduated from The North Carolina School of the Arts with a Masters Degree in Music Performance. He is a regular performer with the Winston-Salem Symphony and the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Philidor Percussion Group during the 2003 Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention. Mr. Antonelli is most noted by his teaching reputation throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and parts of Ohio. He has taught many high school and College percussion lines including Wake Forest University, Athens Drive High School, Orange High School, West Potomac High School, and Canal-Winchester High School. He is currently writer/arranger for many of these schools and actively participates in both fall and winter programs, and has also arranged for independent groups.

Todd Russell
Color Guard Instructor

Todd Russell is a graduate of East Tennessee State University where he was a member of the ETSU “Marching Bucs” (guard) as well as the Wind and Concert Ensembles (French horn). Todd was a member of the Mountainaires Ind. a Winterguard based out of Johnson City, TN, from 1995-1997. In 2003 he performed with "Infiniti World" Winterguard based out of Greeneville, South Carolina, under the direction of Victor Mooney, Joe Sowders, and J.C. Caceres. Todd was an instructor for the 2000 WGI Independent A Class Champions and 2001 WGI Independent Open Class finalist, Infiniti Winterguard from Greeneville, South Carolina. He also is an alumni summer staff member for Marching Auxiliaries, Inc. Todd continues to choreograph for several guard programs in Tennessee and Virginia. In 2006, Todd completed a 2-year term as President of the Carolina Indoor Performance Association. Currently, he teaches 6th grade Social Studies and is working towards a Master's in Reading Curriculum and Instruction. He serves full time with the Bassett High School Band as Colorguard Coordinator and also is the Colorguard Caption Head of the 2007 DCI Gold Medalist, Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps.
