Membership has its privileges. SOTOGAB members enjoy the best seats at all sporting events, attendance at bowl games and tournaments, transportation to events at no cost, daily expense allowance to cover food and expenses on away trips, All needed equipment provided, academic credit that enhances the cumulative GPA, early move in dates to campus allowing students to get acclimated before everyone else arrives, immediate social interaction with one of the largest student groups on campus, as well as participation stipends (money received just before Winter Holiday) to all third and fourth year band members. Sometimes, second year members receive the stipend as well.

Members of SOTOGAB receive academic credit for both MUS 128 (Athletic Band I…Marching Band) and MUS 129 (Athletic Band II…Pep Band). A grade will be given at the end of each semester based on participation and performance. In order to participate in MUS 129 each member must have been a part of MUS 128.
The lone required expense for the SOTOGAB is a new membership fee of $100.00. This fee is collected at the beginning of Band Camp from each incoming member. The membership fee includes your band shoes, band ball cap, band t-shirt, band camp activities fee, uniform cleaning fee, all music, and flip folder as well as any other extraneous items needed to participate. For veteran members, the membership fee is only $50.00.

Currently, auditions are not required in order to participate in SOTOGAB. If any member needs an instrument, instruments and/or instrument lockers will be provided and assigned when members arrive for Band Camp. Color Guard and Percussion sections are also selected during Band Camp.
Obviously, the SPIRIT OF THE OLD GOLD AND BLACK is a highly visible performing ensemble. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is required. SOTOGAB rehearsals are normally only 4 hours per week (T/TH) except when there is a home football game. On game days, an extra rehearsal may be scheduled prior to kick off. This is always subject to change.
At Wake Forest University, academic excellence is of primary importance and should be recognized as a priority. Rehearsal time missed for academic reasons will not affect final grades.
