About Us

The Wake Forest University (WFU) Athletic Bands consist of the Marching Band and the Pep Bands and are collectively referred to as the SPIRIT OF THE OLD GOLD AND BLACK (SOTOGAB).  The WFU Marching Band performs at all home football games, a few select away football games and NCAA Bowl appearances each season.

The WFU Pep Bands perform at all home Men’s and Women’s basketball games as well as ACC and NCAA Tournament appearances.  Sometimes the SOTOGAB can be seen at WFU Field Hockey matches, WFU Soccer matches, WFU Volleyball matches, and many other events where Demon Deacon Spirit is needed.

The SOTOGAB is part of the Wake Forest University Athletic Department and Music Department.  It has quickly become one of the largest student groups on campus consisting of students from all over the world, every level of academic growth and almost every field of study offered at Wake Forest University.  Many of our members have never marched, spun a flag or even played an instrument.  Yet, through the desire to achieve and the needed hard work… there is a place for EVERYONE who wants to be a part of THE SPIRIT OF THE OLD GOLD AND BLACK. At Wake Forest, on a campus of just over 6,000 total students (undergraduate, graduate and professional school combined), the members of the SOTOGAB are a collection of the finest and most dedicated Demon Deacons.
We are the heart and soul of the Demon Deacon cheering section, working hard every week to provide the optimum example of Demon Deacon Pride and the supreme demonstration of Wake Forest Class.  It is this “Passion that defies explanation” that inspires the SOTOGAB to continually strive for excellence in musical performance and showmanship in order to guarantee that game day is always full of energy.  That is what makes us… the SPIRIT OF THE OLD GOLD AND BLACK!!!
