Quick Facts about Rowing:
-Boats are defined as either bow or stern loaders, dependingon which end the Coxwain sits in
-A Coxwain is the person whose job it is to motivate the boat and to steer it
-The Coxwain has a Cox Box, which tells the Coxwain the number of strokes per minute being taken by the boat, and is hooked into speakers so that the enitre boat can hear the Cox.
-The seats in a boat are numbered from bow to stern, the first person is 1, or Bow, and the last person is either 2, 4, or 8, and is referred to as the Stroke
-The Stroke sets the pace of the boat, everyone else follows his or her lead
-Sweeping is when each rower has only one oar, Sculling is when each rower has two oars
-Most of your power comes from your legs, not your arms
-The slide is your recovery, don't rush it
- A rowing machine is referred to as an Erg
Facts about Wake Rowing:
-Most members of the team have not rowed before coming to college
-The team practiceson the water in both the mornings and afternoons depending on the schedules of them members of your boat
-The team is a club at Wake Forest, which means that we are very self-reliant
-The team has rowed for years on Lake Belews, but will be moving to Salem Lake in the spring of 2008
-The team currently possesses boats of 4 and 8
-The team typically competes in two regattas in the fall, including the Head of the Hooch, and four or five in the Spring, including SIRAs
-Team members are sent Erg workouts at the beginning of the week, it is each member's responsibility to make sure that they are followed
-Team members Erg in Reynolds Gym, in the same hallway as the Raquetball courts.
-The team holds several parties throughout the year to promote unity and have a lot of fun
-The team is currently in particular need of Coxwains, so if you are interested in being in charge, and are a small individual, consider becoming a Coxwain!
