January 21, 2009:
Welcome back! In accordance with the new year, some important changes have been made in WFERT. Please read the following notices carefully!
ELECTIONS: We're going to switch to a Winter (mid-schoolyear) elections system, which will allow new officers to get guidance from former officers. The election will be held next meeting (January 27th). If you are interested in running, refer to the requirements listed in the SOPs (accessed via the Documents page), and send Lauren an e-mail with your name, year, the position you're running for, and a short paragraph describing your qualifications.
SHIFT SETUP: Each member will sign up for two nights between Sunday and Thursday on which they are typically available. For these weeknights, shifts will be assigned based on a rotation among people who signed up for each particular night (YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO TAKE CALL ON THESE NIGHTS EVERY WEEK). For weekends, we will continue using the A/B/C shift rotation; the shift leader will be responsible for finding members to fill their spots. If you can't take call a day you are assigned, find someone who is willing to trade shifts with you.
WEBSITE CHANGES: I've made some slight changes to the website that will hopefully make it a bit more practical. I've cut the older posts from here and put them in a new archive page, and I've revamped the Calendar page (formerly "Schedule") to include upcoming events and standby opportunities as well as the shift calendar. Check the Calendar often for important dates!

November 6th, 2008:
We need volunteers to take shift for this weekend's homecoming football game. Contact Andrew Petrilli if you're interested.
If you want to make some money, provide standby at the rugby match (12-3 on Saturday). Let an officer know!
We really need people to start signing up for shifts. Find a partner to go on duty with and pick your day!
The next meeting is on THURSDAY at 7:30. It's a very important meeting; if you can't make it let Lauren know why...otherwise you risk being cut from the roster. There will be training and pizza. Wear something WFERT-related!
Have a good week and a fun homecoming...remember to come THURSDAY instead of WEDNESDAY.
--------
October 15th, 2008:
If you're interested in volunteering with the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad, ask Andrew Petrilli or Lauren Klinzing for information.
Everyone have a great fall break; if you're going somewhere be safe and have fun...if you're staying on campus, help out and sign up for a shift!
--------
October 8th, 2008:
Andrew Hall will be sending out info shortly pertaining to WFERT getting access to flu shots; be sure to schedule an appointment before the season hits!
We have customized front license plates for sale if you want to rep WFERT on your whip, contact Andrew Petrilli if you're interested.
We need one more EMT to provide stand-by coverage with Neel at the 5k run on Saturday. Sign up!
Project Pumpkin has been moved forward to the 28th, the same day as the AED 5k run. We'll have more info about both events at the meeting next Wednesday.
Thanks to Butch for the SMART Triage presentation today; if you missed the meeting, you might want to ask someone to bring you up to speed on it.
Remember, members are required to do at least 12 hours (1 shift) of ride-along with the Forsyth County EMS per semester. All you have to do is call the supervisor (345-2883) at least 24 hours in advance and say that you're with WFERT. Remember to wear your uniform!

October 1st, 2008:
This coming Monday (October 6th) we'll be sending interested members to the EM Today conference in Greensboro. We'll be leaving at 11:00 AM, and staying until late afternoon/early evening. There will be plenty of exciting things to see and do, and we'll have some good con-ed opportunities. The price is $50, but WFERT should be able to cover at least half of that. If you're interested, talk to Andrew Petrilli. If you want to check it out, the website is here.
Upcoming events:
October 11th - Wake the Library 5k run; we need EMTs to provide standby from 8:00 AM to around noon.
October 28th - AED 5k run, more info TBA.
October 30th - Project Pumpkin; we need 2 EMTs to man (or woman?) the awesome WFERT booth we'll have up, and 2 EMTs to provide standby coverage at the first-aid station.
There will be an information meeting this coming Tuesday (Oct. 7th), in the Polo Lounge, at 7:00 PM. For real this time, we think. ALL OFFICERS SHOULD BE PRESENT.
Cookout update: October 12th at 1:00 PM (we hope).
Next meeting we'll be going through some important training with START triage, so be sure you don't miss it.
SIGN UP FOR SHIFTS! Have a good week, see you on Wednesday (or Tuesday if you're an officer).

September 24, 2008:
Remember that all WFERT members will be required to fulfill 12 hours (1 shift) of ride-along with the County EMS.
There will be an information meeting NEXT Tuesday, time/place TBA (probably around 7:00 PM).
We might be having a cookout this semester, in addition to the traditional end-of-the-year fiesta. Potentially October 12th.
Lots of other important things were discussed at tonight's meeting. If you weren't there, be sure to send Lauren a few e-mails to get caught up.

Student Government has been discussing the possibility of upgrading our office space to a more central location (maybe in Benson or Reynolds Gym)...more info to come.
The skills topic at today's meeting was a refresher on vitals. If you couldn't make the meeting, try to arrange practice with a friend on taking blood pressure and checking for breath sounds.
There will be a meeting for potential new members next week (probably Tuesday). Check soon for updates on location/time.
From now on, each meeting will include one call review from that week. These will provide an opportunity to discuss the proper procedure in different situations.
Each WFERT member should go to http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp and complete the ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 courses. Print out your certification and give it to Andrew Hall ASAP.
--------
September 10, 2008:
If you haven't turned in copies of your certifications (CPR and EMT), do so ASAP. E-mail Andrew Hall (hallam6) if you have any questions.
We're looking for WFERT pictures we could use for the website, if you have any either e-mail them to legrme7 or bring them to a meeting...thanks!
Contact an officer if you don't know which shift group you're on (A, B, C).
The ZSR Library is hosting a 5k run on Saturday, October 11th. Keep this in mind if you're interested in helping cover the event; more info to come soon.
Meetings will be every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the Polo Lounge. They will consist of short meetings (for quick updates) and long meetings (for continuing education), alternating weekly.
Enjoy your week and sign up for shifts; see you next Wednesday!
