Who We Are
The Founders of Sigma Nu Sigma Nu's past is a proud and colorful one. Founded by three cadets at the Virginia Military Institute in a period of civil strife known as the Reconstruction, Sigma Nu represented a radical departure from the times. In opposition to a system of physical abuse and hazing of underclassmen at VMI, James Frank Hopkins, Greenfield Quarles, and James McIlvaine Riley formed the "Legion of Honor" which soon became Sigma Nu Fraternity. So, amidst a backdrop of turmoil, the first "Honor" fraternity was established in 1869.

Almost 120 years later, Sigma Nu's 209th chapter colonized at Wake Forest University in the busy city of Winston-Salem, NC. Today, the Lambda Alpha chapter proves to be a strong Brotherhood of men, living each day by the Principle of Honor. Although our chapter is relatively young, it has seen the comings and goings of many successful students, and the future is just beginning.
