Senior University Appointments Committee
Charges for 2005-2006 Session
General:
The Senior University Appointments Committee shall recommend persons for honorary degrees, receiving nominations from the University faculties and reporting its recommendations to the Senate, which must approve the recommendations before they are communicated by the President of the University for approval by the Board of Trustees. The Committee shall advise on appointments of all senior administrators (i.e., members of the Executive Council), including the President of the University, of all colleges and schools of the University.
Specific:
- Review and report on the procedures used in the recent Presidential search.
- Try to enhance participation of the University community in nominating candidates for honorary degrees. In particular, encourage nominations of those who have contributed significantly to the advancement of knowledge and understanding. Report on the outcomes of the recently revised selection procedures.
- Continue to cooperate with the Advancement Office in selecting commencement speakers from among potential candidates; consider the possibility of awarding an honorary degree to the speaker.
