A review of the University's current vision and mission statements is now in progress. The University Planning Council and Trustees will continue this review, and a draft of any proposed changes to these statements will be presented to the campus community for comment in the late summer 2006.

The University Planning Council (UPC) has been established to oversee the planning process, to create a situation analysis, to recommend strategic priorities, and to draft a University-wide plan. This 19- member council represents a wide range of campus constituencies.

Based on a combination of factual information and qualitative input from the Wake Forest community, a situation analysis will be created. This analysis is intended to be a representation of where Wake Forest stands today (its strengths, challenges, and opportunities), and the major global, societal, and higher education trends that are likely to impact the University's future.

Taking into account the University's vision and mission statements, its values, and the situation analysis, a strategic framework will be developed. This framework will focus upon a limited set of strategic priorities that should be addressed in the unit and University-wide plans that will follow.

| |
While input from the University community will be important in finalizing the vision and mission statements and in the construction of the situation analysis, a special community feedback period will follow the creation of the strategic framework. This feedback will play a critical role in arriving at a campus-wide consensus on the University's strategic priorities.
| |
After any modifications to the strategic framework based on community feedback, individual units will begin to develop their plans to support the strategic priorities. We also expect that some units will collaborate in developing plans for those priorities that cross unit boundaries.
| |
The individual plans will be reviewed by the UPC and the UPC will recommend overall university priorities based on the individual plans and their impact on the strategic priorities.
| |
The UPC will create the formal University-wide strategic plan, which will be a compilation of the major points in the situation analysis, the vision, mission, values and strategic priorities, and the individual unit plans. |
