Why Greek? The "frat boy" image has plagued fraternities
for the past thirty years. Visions of John Belushi binge drinking flash
through every incoming freshman and parent's head. The truth is actually
much different. Being in a fraternity at Wake and most schools is actually
beneficial for your grades. The all-fraternity GPA is consistently above
the all-mens' average. Fraternities don't just push you to excel in
school, but in every aspect of your life. 85% of the Fortune 500 executives
were members of greek organizations, along with almost every President
and Vice President. You can get more stats on the benefits of being
in a fraternity here.
Why Chi Psi as a national fraternity? The fraternity is arranged
to push you towards constant improvement in "intellectual, moral,
and social life." The Chi Psi Educational Trust is in charge of
many programs, such as The Chi Psi Leadership Development Program or
the Spencer Institute. They also distribute many scholarships to undergraduate
and graduate students. The largest difference between Chi Psi and other
greek organizations is our continuing participation after graduation.
When you join Chi Psi, you will become a Brother for life and share
in the Bonds of friendship with thousands of men across the country.
We have an old saying, "Once a Chi Psi, Always a Chi Psi."
This quote embodies part of why it is great to be a Chi Psi. Choosing
to join Chi Psi is not just a four year commitment, but a lifelong journey.
Why Chi Psi on the Wake Campus? Being a Chi Psi is much more
than just guaranteeing yourself an invite to a party every week. Our
smaller size enables us to have a close-knit Brotherhood. We don't have
cliques or divisions between pledge classes that you see in other fraternities.
It also enables you to take an active roll in deciding what direction
the fraternity takes. Every year there is ample room for new Brothers
to take major leadership roles in our organization. We also strive to
develop more in ourselves than the reputation of throwing good parties.
We stress academics, and have several measures to help Brothers struggling
in classes, such as matching them with a brother who is majoring in
the subject. Chi Psi works very hard to give back to the community.
We won the Inter-Fraternity Council's Community Service Award last year,
and expect to do so again. Becoming a Chi Psi at Wake is a life-changing
event. It will make you a stronger person, and establish permanent Bonds
of friendship you will always be able to rely on.
