DEBATE FORMAT

2011-2012 Policy Debate Topic:

Resolved: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth’s mesosphere.

 

Open Debate Championship: Each school may enter up to three two-person teams, prepared to debate both sides of the National High School Topic. Schools may request (see debate entry forms) a fourth or fifth team in Open. Acceptance will depend on space availability and the discretion of the tournament director. This division is open to debaters of any level of experience, but is primarily intended to be a varsity division. The division will be limited by the number of contest rooms available (approx. 120 teams), and will break to double octas. Cross-ex (8-3-5), 8 minute prep-time rule enforced.

J. V. Debate Championship: Each school may enter up to four two-person teams prepared to debate both sides of the National High School topic. Schools may request a fifth team in Junior Varsity. Acceptance will depend on space availability. Debaters with no more than two years debate experience may participate in the JV division. The division will be limited by room availability. The division will also use cross-ex (8-3-5), 8 minute prep time. Acceptance of 3rd and 4th teams is contingent on entry as indicated in paragraph above.

Public Forum Debate: We will use standard format public forum Debate time format and use the national topic. Each school may enter up to six two-person PF debate teams. We will accept a more teams contingent on room availability.
