Sven Anderson (MA '87) is teaching at a Community College outside of Wilmington NC doing well and extends his greeting to all his friends.

Joe Bellon (MA 93.) is assuming the Debate Coach position at Georgia State University in Atlanta

Ted Belch's (MA '74) Glenbrook North HS in Chicago won it 2nd consecutive NFL National Debate Championship this last June.

Sandy Berkowitz (MA '89) and Shane Stafford (MA '89) are living in the Northeast, where Sandy is on the faculty at the Univ. of Maine.

Bobby Burchfield ('76) is chairing the Wake Forest Alumni Council and was on the George W. Bush's debate negotiating team this fall.

R. Paul Caudill ('29), Pastor Emeritus, First Baptist Church of Memphis has helped with the history project and continues in retirement to write theology books at a crisp rate.

Bob Chandler (MA '86) has contributed to the Wake History project. He is going up for full professor at Pepperdine Univ. in Malibu, CA

Doug Elam ('48) is President of Buckhead International in Atlanta. The company he founded in 1971 is now one of the three largest real estate brokerage firms in the South and specializes in international investors.

Bill Evans ('83) is a full professor of economics at the Univ. of Maryland. He lives with McLean, Virginia with his wife Eileen and three boys, Conor (9) Brendan (6), and Patrick (3). His publications list is impressive: http://www.bsos.umd.edu/econ/evans/

Mitsuhiro Fugjimaki (MA '95) is finishing his dissertation at Iowa and has a new teaching position in Japan in April.

David Gainey ('90) and his wife hosted the Wake debaters during the University of Richmond tournament. He develops accounts with Capital One in Richmond.

Daveed Gartenstein-Ross ('98) is at NYU Law and is interning this summer coming for David Boyes (yes, that David Boyes). Daveed and Amy Powell (2001) are to be married this summer.

Andy Geppert ('89) is working as an assistant debate coach at the Univ. of Iowa

John and Sue (Woerner) Graham ('78) again hosted the Wake debaters this fall during the Harvard tournament, providing the best of hospitality. John continues directing the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis and Sue is a financial planner with Komack.

Mark Grant ('93, MA '95) edited a new book with F. Lawrence Street, an Atlanta lawyer, Law of the Internet, 2000 Edition. (Lexis Law Publishing, Charlottesville, VA). Mark's wife Kara (Champion) finished her Wake MA this year and is not administering the Urban Debate League in Atlanta.

Vickie (Leonard) Henderson ('80) remains in contact and has taken a new job in the non-profit sector in New York.

Bill Hill (MA '79) has been named Dean of Arts and Science at UNC-Charlotte

John Hughes ('96) was married in Virginia this summer to college sweetheart Amy. He is planning on attending law school in the fall.

Elva Hunt ('51) sent thoughtful comments regarding the Presidential Debate at Wake Forest. Elva continues a strong interest in the University and debate programs.

Khalid Jones ('99) is finishing his first year at Stanford Law School.

Judd Kimball ('90) is working at as the Administrative Assistant to the Northwestern Univ. Debate program

Gary Kraus ('75) has been in touch. He continues a successful legal career with Onebane, Bernard, Torian, Diaz, McNamara & Abell in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Brian Lain ('93) took time out from writing his dissertation at the Univ. of Iowa this summer to get married to a fellow Ph. D. candidate.

Gordon Mitchell (MA '91) Director of Debate at the University of Pittsburgh, new book Strategic Deception: Rhetoric, Science and politics in Missile Defense Advocacy (2000) had just been published by the Michigan State University Press.

Janette Kenner Muir (MA '83) has been appointed Interim Associate Dean for New Century College at George Mason University. Star Muir ('80) in addition to teaching in GMU's Comm. department directs the Student Technology Assistance and Resources (STAR) Center.

Tim O'Donnell ('92, MA '96) finished his Ph.D. at the Univ. of Pittsburgh. He is teaching at Mary Washington University.

Scott O'Donnell ('95) is working with financial markets in London, England.

Larry Penley ('71) has been in touch supporting the program. He is Dean of the Arizona State University School of Business.

Brian Prestes ('97) "Thought you might be interested to know that I was made Executive Editor of the University of Chicago Law Review." Yes indeed, congratulations on continued success.

Kevin Quinley ('76) stays in touch, he lives in the Fairfax Virginia area with his family.

Shannon Redmond (MA) was married this summer to former Dartmouth debaters Jason Feldman.

Clay Rhodes ('99) is in his first year of law school at Duke Univ. in Durham.

Ken Rufo ('99) finished his Masters at Georgia and is now in the Ph. D. program in Athens. And he got married a little over a year ago.

Andy Ryan and Kristen Langwell, former Wake debaters now at the University of Iowa were recognized as the Copeland Award winner for being the top team in the nation over the '99-'2000 season.

Max Schnurer (MA, '99) is finishing his Ph. D. at Pittsburgh and, this fall, accepted the position as director of debate at Marist College in New York.

Greg Smith ('81) has moved to Washington DC from Atlanta and is now Associate Counsel to the President. Movin on up . . .And more importantly, Missy and Greg announced the birth of their daughter "Ceci", December 15th.

Roger Solt ('76) is becoming a restaurateur in Lexington, where he works as the Debate Coach at the Univ. of Kentucky.

Ted Tyson ('92) For several years Ted ran the New England Division of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, a nonprofit that teaches inner-city teens how to start and operate a small business. This year he has moved on BiT Group, to work as an account manager for Internet development in Boston.

Marcia Tiersky ('94) is clerking at a Federal District Court in Kansas after completing a year clerking in Alaska.

Bryan Yeazel ('97) is continuing his Law degree at Notre Dame Univ. He writes in an e-mail some advice/encouragement for active debates:
"On another note...in case your younger debaters wonder why they spend time doing debate work...This is my second year in law school and as most law students I have had a million interviews in the last two years. Time and again, the topic that interviewers invariably ask questions about is debate. They cannot get enough of it. They love to hear what topics we debated, what the format is, how well we did, etc. I know it is hard for the undergraduates to see the "real-world" implications of their debate experiences. However, encourage them to stick with it. The activity is worth it."
