Aprender y Enseñar
Aprender y Enseñar is a
new nonprofit service agency at Wake Forest University. The agency
works with Wake Forest University's Volunteer Service Corps, and
Winston-Salem's Hispanic International Action Association (HIAA)
to form a partnership of service between the two communities.
Aprender y Enseñar unites
the organizations of the Winston-Salem area that primarily work
with the Hispanic Community with the service foundation of Wake
Forest. The sectors that we are working with are: Education, Medical,
Social Services, Law, and Business Opportunities. We hope to establish
a strong volunteer and service organization link. Uniting these
two groups, Aprender y Enseñar will be able to provide coordinated
volunteer service help to all organizations that need it.
Aprender y Enseñar was recently
awarded two grants from the Lily Foundation's Pro Humanitate Grants
from Wake Forest University, and one through the Office of the Provost.
Through these grants we have established a service database of service
organizations in the Winston-Salem community, in addition to the
research we have conducted via a Freshman First Year Seminar: Mexican
Immigration to the United States (Fall 2001) in which the students
actively volunteer with the local Hispanic organizations.
Also, we have established quick
and easy routes of communication between Wake Forest and the service
organizations of Winston-Salem. Aprender y Enseñar not only
has an e-mail address, aprender@wfu.edu
for rapid communication, but this website is also full of helpful
information concerning all partner volunteer organizations in Winston-Salem
that are working with the agency.
