October 27, 2008 Minutes

Come Next Week to work on next semester!! Committees! Yay!

  • Hunger banquet went well!
  • Documentary:
    • Will start advertising the week of the 10th
    • November 18th is the date
  • Anti-Torture
    • Pushing it back to next semester
    • Have it for an entire week
    • Maybe have a debate?
    • “Taxi to the Dark Side”
      • Would have to buy rights
    • Controversial
    • Make a sub-committee
  • Books to prisoners
    • Women’s prison near Raleigh, and one near Richmond
    • Need confirmation
    • We can either go ourselves or find an organization
  • The Red Ball
    • For AIDS awareness—should work on this year
    • Could make it part of a bigger AIDS awareness campaign
    • Focus on this as part of something else—send individual invites to everyones PO
    • Start a committee
    • Silent auction to raise money
    • Make shirts for it to raise money
  • Student Documentaries for Next Semester!
    • Come next week with ideas!

 

October 13, 2008 Minutes

Hunger Banquet!

-         Flyers

-         Club building event next Monday painting!

o       Will have a map of the world with painting different colors for different things

-         Speakers

o       We have some from the “Saturday Morning” thing (Will McGowan)

o       Melissa from Campus Kitchen maybe

o       Jeff will talk from Campus Kitchen

-         Will be in the Autumn room

-         Will have the food all set up

-         Advertising

o       VSC will make a banner

o       Texting: Texting a word to a number that will have information that will come out—then can send out reminders to everyone texts to the number

o       $40—can split with other organizations

-         Can also set up with the FreeRice.org competition to also donate money at the same time

-         Stories/  Character Tickets

o       Oxfam.org

-         At the end, someone will stand up to talk about opportunities to end poverty

-         Will make a facebook event

 

Books to Prison

-         someone from the Psychology department wants help donating books to a woman’s prison

 

 

 

October 6, 2008 Minutes

  • Hunger Banquet!
    • Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 6:30 PM
    • Dividing up everyone in three groups—we will get the food from Aramark or Campus Kitchen
    • We are partnering with VSC
      • Putting out table tents with facts to get people interested
      • 40 people ish
    • Marketing:
      • Word of mouth
      • Tables
      • Talking to departments (international studies, sociology)
      • Putting up a banner—VSC has reserved locations
      • Something in the OGB in the week before
      • Someone put it on the Student (Jeff)
    • Events during
      • Short clips playing
      • Looking for informative videos (Madeline)
      • What can you do now
      • Students talking about what you can do now (Contact Melissa)
      • Focus more on Winston-Salem issues
      • Contacting someone from the food bank of Winston-Salem (Madeline will ask her friends, leader from Campus Kitchen)
    • Location: the autumn room, possibly Benson, VSC is checking this week
    • Food: Aramark will either donate or Campus Kitchen might be able to supply the food as a partnership
    • Ways to get involved
      • Have sign ups for things like the Samaritan Inn etc afterwards
    • Will have an RSVP System but a walk ins welcome!
      • Donations box instead of having someone pay—donations optional and giving volunteer opportunities
    • Getting personal stories for everyone or read stories?
      • Ordering the groups by the name?
      • Bring a story next week!!

  • Forum “Pro humanitate in Action” 5:00-6:00 in Pugh on September 26!
  • All Set up!
  • Devin Cain, Elisabeth Holby, Lincoln Wheeler
  • VSC will talk about it (2-3 people)
  • Ask for pictures (send them to petrm6@wfu.edu)
  • 7-8 participants giving a few minutes talk for an activity that they have been
