Current Events

  • Thursday, April 29th - GSSA banquet, GSSA Lounge (NOTE LOCATION CHANGE!), 5:30pm. Please RSVP to Luke or Lexie if you plan to attend! Food from Olive Garden!
  • Wednesday, April 22nd - Last GSSA meeting of Spring 2009, LOCATION CHANGE, Benson 301, at 8:30pm.
  • Wednesday, April 15th - Review the proposed changes to the GSSA constitution, GSSA Lounge, Benson 216 at 8:00pm!
  • Wednesday, April 8th - GSSA elections in the GSSA Lounge, Benson 216 at 7:30pm! And Adam Huffman will be giving his presentation on the Bible and Homosexuality. This will cover both Judaism and Christianity and their views on homosexuality. Elections will be held following the meeting. Positions up for election are:

  • Tuesday, March 24th - Parvez Sharma will show his film A Jihad for Love at 6 PM in Greene Hall, Room 162.

  • Wednesday, March 18th - Benson 216, at 8pm! This week will be finishing up our series on the ex- gay movement by screening Homosexuality 101. This is a film produced by Exodus International and has become the standard documentary of the ex-gay movement and many in various denominations of ex-gay ministries. The film includes testimonies from "healed" individuals, and ends with a call to action for straight people to further homophobic culture.
  • Wednesday, February 25th - We will be watching the film "But I'm a Cheerleader" at 7:30 in the GSSA Lounge.This is the first of a series of meetings we will be having for GSSA to explore the ex-gay movement.
  • Wednesday, February 18th - This week's meeting will consist of elections and a game night.  We're going to be electing the new permanent Social Chair and also we'll be playing a wonderful game of gay jeopardy.
  • Wednesday, January 28th - This week we will be once again visiting GSSA @ Winston-Salem State.  
    They will be showing the documentary for the Bible Tells Me So and hosting a panel discussion about the film.  The panel will include members of the film.  For the Bible Tells me so will be shown on the WSSU campus at 6 PM, so we will be gathering in the GSSA lounge at 5:00 to leave by 5:30 for the film.
  • Wednesday, December 3rd - Benson 216, the GSSA Lounge, will be dedicated as a quiet study space to allow GSSA members a quiet and safe place to study. Happy Holidays!
  • Wednesday, November 19th - Benson 216, at 8pm! Thanksgiving Potluck and review of GSSA constitution. A sign up sheet will be available at the November 12th meeting or contact Cat Booher (Social Chair) at boohcb7@wfu.edu to let her know what you would like to bring.
  • Wednesday, November 12th - Benson 216, at 8pm! GSSA will be hosting a forum on the group's constitution. Please come and offer feedback. The GSSA constitution can be found under Oganization Info
  • Friday, November 7th - GSSA Homecoming event, Benson 216, at 8pm! The event will be from 8 PM until 10 PM and the Executive Board wishes to invite all members to this event to mingle with members of the faculty and staff along with with alumni who have returned to campus for the weekend.
  • Wednesday, November 5th - Benson 216, at 8pm! Business meeting for GSSA to elect a new Communications Chair for GSSA
  • Wednesday, October 29th - Election 2008, Benson 216, at 8pm! Tonight we will be meeting to discuss the presidential candidates and also hear from Mr. Wade Boyles.  Mr. Boyles is the NC Coordinator for Obama Pride and a candidate for the NC House District 74 Race.  If he is elected this year Mr. Boyles will be the first openly gay member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. 
  • Wednesday, October 22nd - Halloween in the GSSA Lounge, Benson 216, at 8pm! We're going to do some arts & crafts along with decorating of cookies in a Halloween theme.  This will be our last social activity for several week as we will be turning to discussions with guest speakers on the election next week and then gender identity as well as a number of other topics.

  • Wednesday, October 15th - Study Break in the GSSA Lounge, Benson 216, at 8pm! There won't be any structured activity, but if you want to come hang out for a little while, take a break and chat with people maybe watch some of the final presidential debate, or just hang out for a little while.  Everyone needs a bit of a break so come and join us for yours tonight!

  • Saturday, October 11th - Out at the Movies - GSSA will be making a trip to NCSA to Out at the Movies in Winston-Salem for a viewing of "Ask Not".  This is a film that examines the military policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the reasons why this policy should be repealed.  This is an event that requires individuals to purchase a ticket and they can be obtained in advance.  If you're interested in attending please let me know by Thursday evening so that I can let the people at Out at the Movies know.

  • Wednesday, October 8th - Weekly Meeting - We will be holding our weekly meeting in the GSSA Llounge, Benson 218.  As this Saturday (Oct. 11) is National Coming Out day and because of this our program tomorrow night will be a group conversation on coming out.  There will coming out stories shared, advice to our straight allies on how to respond if someone comes out to them and also what those who come out want/need to hear from those individuals that they come out to.  I think that it will be a great learning experience for everyone involved and I hope to see you there.
  • Presidential Debate - Viewing of the 2nd Presidential Debate hosted by the Wake Forest College Democrats.  The event is in Annenburg Forum in Carswell Hall.  There will be a pre-debate lecture by Ross Smith at 8:30 and then the debate at 9:00 PM.  Also the late NBC News Correspondent and Washington Bureau Chief Tim Russert's son Luke will be joining us on campus tonight.  So if you can please turn out, you might even get interviewed for NBC news!
  • Wednesday, August 27th, First GSSA meeting of the 2008-2009 school year.
    Meet in the GSSA Lounge, Benson 218, at 8pm!
