Constitution of the Chinese Graduate Student Association

Preamble:

The mission of the Chinese Graduate Students Association of Wake Forest University is to:

  1. serve as an academic and social network for Chinese-American graduate students in Wake Forest University;
  2. encourage the recruitment and retention of Chinese-American graduate students at Wake Forest University; and
  3. sponsor programs promoting and encouraging education in general and graduate education in particular.

CONSTITUTION OF THE CHINESE GRADUATE STUDENT ASSOCIATION

ARTICLE I -- Name

The official name of this organization will be The Chinese Graduate Students Association of Wake Forest University (CGSA).

ARTICLE II
-- Membership

Membership is open to any currently enrolled graduate students of the Wake Forest University in accordance with the University's non-discrimination policy as stated in the Wake Forest student handbook.

ARTICLE III
-- Officers

The officers of the CGSA will include a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Officers will be elected by the membership in the fall semester of each academic year by a majority vote. Officers will be elected for a term of office of no more than one year.

ARTICLE IV -- Executive Committee

The executive committee of the CGSA shall include the president and vice-president of the organization.

ARTICLE V
-- Meetings

Regular monthly meetings shall be agreed upon by the membership at the start of each semester.

ARTICLE VI
-- Finances

Any funds generated or collected by the CGSA will be handled in a responsible manner by the treasurer.

ARTICLE VII -- Amendment

Amendments to this constitution can be made by a majority vote of the membership present at a regularly scheduled meeting. At least 60 percent of the membership must be present at this meeting.

ARTICLE VIII
– Honorary Membership

Honorary members selected from the faculty and alumni of Wake Forest University shall be agreed upon by the membership.

ARTICLE IX
-- Ratification

This constitution will be ratified upon approval of the Graduate Council and Graduate Faculty.
