Instructional Technology
Career Development Plan
February 27, 2001
Wake Forest University is committed to providing a development program for Academic Computing Specialists who want to advance their careers. To this end, three professional levels will be established to provide incentive and guidance for individuals who want to excel in their field. The progression to higher levels should involve commensurate increases in knowledge, skill and performance. As individuals advance in their careers, they would offer the University a higher and broader range of skills. The three levels, from lowest to highest, will be:
1. Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS)
2. Instructional Technology Consultant (ITC)
3. Instructional Technology Analyst (ITA)
All levels will be defined as professional positions and will be exempt from overtime for pay purposes. These positions will be in the same Pay Plan as comparable positions in Information Services.
Generally, ACS's will begin their careers as an Instructional Technology Specialist and will have the opportunity to advance to subsequent levels based upon:

- Specialized computer or software training, i.e.
- courses
- certifications
- special areas of knowledge;
- Completion of special assignments or projects made by the Dean of the College or the Chief Information Officer in consultation with the Department Chair and Human Resources;

Individuals who reach the Instructional Technology Analyst level are eligible for: a management internship position with I.S. or if they prefer, may request a special assignment that would serve instructional needs. Internships would typically be a year in duration and would provide an opportunity for the ITA to develop new skills and assume new responsibilities. Both the internships and special assignments would require advanced planning and coordination to insure that normal job responsibilities are covered in the absence of the ITA.
Promotions for all levels will typically be considered once a year following the Annual Performance Appraisal Process in the spring. In order to be recommended for promotion, an individual must meet all of the minimum requirements of the new position and must have had exemplary performance the prior year. Individuals will receive a salary increase at the time of the promotion, typically July 1.
Progression through the Instructional Technology ranks will also prepare individuals for other employment opportunities on campus, if that is their preference.
